Man accused of committing felonies, including robbery

A man in Minnesota was recently taken into custody for allegedly committing a robbery. The man is also said to have physically struck the man he robbed. However, those who are accused of committing felonies such as robberies are always presumed innocent until their guilt can be proved in a court of law.

Police said they were told about shots being fired at a particular mobile home. When they arrived at the scene of the incident, they determined that a man, 58, had fallen victim to a robbery and assault. Specifically, a 37-year-old man had allegedly robbed him and used a handgun to hit him in the head.

According to authorities, the younger man had also fired several shots inside the home, although no bullets struck the older man. Police ended up finding the younger man at a nearby hotel and took him into custody following a brief foot pursuit that led him to be tased. The man faces several charges, including being a felon who possessed a stolen gun, aggravated robbery and second-degree assault.

Those who are accused of committing felonies have the right to proceed to trial to fight the criminal charges filed against them. No conviction can be handed down until and unless the prosecution can prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. This high standard exists with the aim of preventing innocent individuals from being convicted of crimes they did not do. However, rather than going to trial, some defendants may benefit from seeking to negotiate plea deals, which might lead to more lenient sentences than they would get if found guilty at trial. In either scenario, an attorney will pursue the most personally favorable outcome for the defendant in Minnesota.
