Minnesota man facing attempted murder charges

On Behalf of | Jul 27, 2022 | Felonies

Several recent incidents reportedly led to a major event where a Minnesota man became locked in a standoff with police. Prior to the standoff, police received reports that the man had brandished a gun toward his church pastor. He was also accused of assaulting his wife.

Police say that there were several warrants out for the man’s arrest. The warrants apparently related to possession of firearms issues. Law enforcement officers procured a search warrant and then went to the man’s home.

Police surrounded the man’s home

Police say that they had reason to believe that the man in question had a high-powered assault weapon inside his home. They also believed that the man’s 13-year-old son was present in the home when they surrounded the residence. They also evacuated several homes nearby. Police are said to have arrived at the home just before 4:30 p.m. and commanded the man to exit the home.

Police launched chemicals into the home with the child inside

An hour or so later, police breached the front door and launched chemicals into the residence after the man reportedly refused to come outside. The boy eventually came out, at which time, police deployed more chemicals into the home. The man allegedly told police if they didn’t back away, he would start shooting, which, they say, he did. After a long standoff, police made their way in and, at some point, fired a shot into the man’s chest, plus several other non-lethal rounds and a Taser. The man was arrested and is now facing charges, including attempted murder and assault, and as any person charged with a crime, he will have an opportunity to contest the formal accusations in court.
