Man To Be Sentenced For Robbery Felonies

On Behalf of | May 31, 2018 | Felonies, Firm News

A man in Minnesota recently admitted that he had committed several armed robberies. He will receive a prison sentence for some of these felonies in July. The 18-year-old man will be sentenced to five years and 10 months behind bars.

The robberies occurred in three separate areas of a city in late October of 2017. They took place from 2:18 a.m. to 6:08 a.m. According to authorities, the man used a knife and a handgun to rob other individuals. The man’s victims had their purses, cell phones and wallets taken. Nobody was hurt during the robberies.

The man ended up pleading guilty to first-degree aggravated robbery (three counts), with three additional aggravated robbery counts and one attempted aggravated robbery account slated to be dismissed during sentencing. However, he received help from another man, 19, and a boy, 17, during the robberies. The other man has pleaded guilty to multiple charges and will receive a sentence of six years behind parts in June. Meanwhile, the case involving the boy, who also faces charges, is moving through the court system now.

Anyone facing criminal charges connected to felonies in Minnesota has the right to proceed to trial to fight these charges. However, if the evidence that prosecutors plan to furnish to support their allegations appears to be strong, it may behoove a defendant to seek to negotiate a plea deal instead, as this may result in lesser charges and thus a lighter sentence. Either way, an attorney will push for the most personally favorable outcome for the defendant and ensure that his or her rights are not violated during the criminal proceedings.
